Service learning is a prime opportunity for students to gain real-world experience with working in the professional world. Throughout my time at IUPUI, I have sought out different ways to become involved in service throughout the IUPUI and Indianapolis communities. These opportunities allow me to give back to the community while gaining invaluable knowledge. I look for volunteer and service opportunities that cover an array of areas of interest in my life. The following content on this page highlights some of my most memorable and impactful service learning experiences.
The Value of Service Learning
Given my passion for running, I have always been inclined to become as involved with the sport as possible. In high school, I began working with a group of 8 year olds and younger as a volunteer cross country coach. Spending time at practices and races with these kids has taught me more about myself and the sport than I ever would have imagined. I was inspired by their naiveness to the sport; they would simply show up to have fun running with their friends. It allowed me to take a new perspective on the sport. It also gave me the inspiration to coach cross country and track once I graduate college. I enjoy departing my knowledge on other people. I am so passionate about this sport that I would always look forward to spending time helping these kids, no matter how much snow was falling during some practices and races!

I have been involved in Dance Marathon since my freshman year of high school. Jagathon was my opportunity to continue my involvement with the organization and expand my outreach into the Riley community. Through this organization, I have been able to meet the Riley families to see the impact we have created on their lives. I am on the family relations committee, so I am responsible for organization events where Riley families can meet Jagathon members. This creates a tighter connection between groups and ignites a drive of inspiration in Jagathon members. It is nice to be reminded of the reason all committees are working so hard to raise money for Riley research. Through Jagathon, I have volunteered to table on campus, served at the annual Trunk or Treat for Halloween, volunteered at the Indianapolis Monumental Marathon, and worked at the 2022 main Jagathon event!

I'm an IUPUI Bepko Scholar through the IUPUI Honors College. Part of my responsibility to maintain this status is to provide community service. I have performed various acts of volunteer work through this organization. I volunteered with fellow Bepko Scholars to clear invasive species from White River State Park. I have also volunteered at the Fletcher Community Center. Here, I organized and sorted through donations to the charity.
